Burning Bowl CeremonyTonight I’m headed to what’s known as a Burning Bowl Ceremony.  During the ceremony, you get a piece of flash paper on which you write down what you want to release.  Then, you light that piece of paper on fire and put it in a special bowl.  This signifies letting go of whatever it is that doesn’t serve you, so you can move into the New Year with a fresh start.

The New Year is a perfect chance to set a new goal.  However, just setting a goal and using willpower isn’t enough.

You have deeply ingrained habits or thoughts, feeling and actions that have created every result in your life. If you want to know what you’ve been thinking and emotionalizing, just look at your current results.

If there is something you don’t like, you can’t just will to change it.  Most people try that, which is why 99% of New Years Resolutions fail.

It’s important to change the source of your results…YOU!

How do you do that?

The first step in achieving a new goal is releasing something in you that is blocking it from coming to you. What belief, feeling, emotion, thought or action are you willing to let go to allow for something greater.

If you’ve been struggling with your weight or despite all of your efforts, you don’t see any change in your body’s shape; ask yourself, what needs to change in you.

Are you thinking negative thoughts all the time?  Are you eating foods that don’t support you?  Do you skip your exercise?

What are you willing to let go and release.  Past failures, negative thoughts, blaming, hurt.

Then, write them all down.

If you don’t have a fire or can’t burn the piece of paper safely, then rip it up and throw it away.  Make the commitment to yourself to let it go.  Then, when your mind wants to bring it up next year, tell yourself you have let that go.

It may sound simple, but it’s very powerful.  Don’t allow yourself to go another year rehearsing past patterns that don’t serve you.  Let them go and make room for a stronger, healthier more vibrant you.

Here’s to releasing that which doesn’t serve you and creating an amazing 2009!!
